Roller Blinds
A single flat fabric sheet on an aluminium tube — the workhorse of a Bellville window, from Boston's original bay reveal to Loevenstein's wide view glass.
Blockout, sunscreen or both
Blockout fabric stops light completely — the right call for a bedroom or nursery where daytime dark actually matters, with a genuine thermal bonus against Bellville's hot, dry February afternoons. Sunscreen fabric, usually 3% to 5% openness, cuts glare and UV while keeping the street or garden visible, which is why it's the default for lounges and living rooms that don't need full dark. A double roller — blockout and sunscreen on one bracket — covers both jobs on a single window, the practical answer for a west-facing bedroom that's also a reading room.
02Boston's bay windows versus Loevenstein's wide glass
Boston was laid out in 1900 and still carries genuine Victorian bay-window stock — shallow reveals, sometimes slightly out of square, that need individual measurement rather than an assumed bracket depth. Newer glazing in Loevenstein and De Tijger tends to run wider and truer to square; a single roller can span close to 3m of fabric before we split it with a central join or motorise linked blinds instead.
03Cassettes, control and colour-matching
A cassette or pelmet valance hides the tube completely and lets us colour-match the fascia to your window frames — a small detail that reads as considered rather than bolted-on. Control runs from a simple chain (fitted with a child-safe tensioner as standard) through to full motorisation for wide or high-reach openings.
- Blockout, sunscreen (3%, 5%, 10% openness) or light-filtering fabrics
- Double-roller day/night combinations for view-facing bedrooms
- Chain, spring or motorised control, cassette or pelmet finishes
One honest limit
Sunscreen fabric gives daytime privacy but reverses at night — with lights on inside, the room becomes visible from outside. For a street-facing bedroom that needs privacy after dark too, pair a sunscreen roller with a blockout roller or curtains rather than relying on sunscreen alone.
From Bellville's own established streets to Boston, Oakdale, Loevenstein and De Tijger, roller blinds are the most-fitted product across every one of these suburbs.
